I had the chance to take part in the MTB XC Race “Trofeu Gilman Bakalli 2025”, one of Albania’s most spirited mountain bike competitions — and I’m proud to have finished second place in my category! 🥈You can find the official results here: Race Results
The day started under heavy rain, and the organizers had to change the original track because parts of it were flooded early in the morning. Despite the weather, the atmosphere was full of energy.
The registration took place in the municipality hall of Shkodra, and soon after, we headed to Bardhaj, where the race began.
From there, the route led us through the valley of the Kir River, across charming villages, and over a wooden pasarela bridge hanging above the river — a spot where almost everyone slid at least once because of the soaked wooden planks! 🌧️
In some sections, the track was partially underwater, but the spirit of the riders remained strong, and the race went on without any incidents.

Crossing the finish line, soaked but smiling, reminded me why I love cycling so much — it’s not just about speed or places; it’s about the challenge, the resilience, and the community that keeps you pedaling even when the skies open up.
After the race, we returned to the municipality of Shkodra for the award ceremony and celebration.
A huge thank you to the organizers Irena Negri Bakalli and Adrit Kraja, and to all the participants for their great spirit and camaraderie in such difficult conditions.
